I decided to start publishing some of my responses to President Trump's Surveys that his Headquarters is frequently sending me for my opinion.
Today, 3-19-18, I responded to this question that was emailed to me yesterday by Trump's Headquarters
QUESTION:
Do you believe the 2020 United States Census should ask if people are American citizens?

MY RESPONSE
I did a bit of research on this so called "simple" subject matter. I have read a plethora of articles in favor of and against including the Citizenship question into the Census of 2020, in much the same manner as it was back in 1950.
My research led me to the conclusion that the Census should not include the Citizenship question in it.
Although I do understand the basis upon which President Trump has rested his decision to include the Citizenship question into the Census of 2020, I note that there are more factors weighing against it than for it,
Based on the fact that the Census response rate and its resultant data as well as funding for vital services would be adversely affected by the inclusion of the Citizenship question in the Census of 2020, perhaps the Citizenship related information, that is sought for the invoked purposes, could be obtained by modifying a bit the Citizenship question in the American Community Survey (ACS), through which the Census Bureau already asks people if they are citizens or not and which every year goes out to about 3 million households and extrapolates information about the U.S. population.
The DOJ deemed its data insufficient but a modification of the Citizenship question in the ACS Survey could yield the desired information.
In my humble opinion, President Trump should have opted for modifying the ACS Survey as opposed to modifying the Census Questions.
